Angkasawan

in less than 24 hours, a guy from Malaysia will leave the world. literally.
location: Baikonur, Russia.
destination: International Space Station (ISS)
mode: the Soyuz

it may seem like just another achievement for Malaysia in it's race for progress. but let me remind you, we'll be the fourth country in the world to send a man into space (Russia, USA, and China), the first from the south-east asia (even before singapore), and sending the first Muslim to space (especially during the month of Ramadan). he'll be spending 9 days aboard the ISS, conducting biological experiments benefiting mankind.

initially, critics were laughing at our effort to send a malaysian into space. jokes were made, including references to making roti canai and teh tarik in space. however, they do not realise how historic this moment is to all malaysians. 50 years after the birth of our nation, we manage to venture into space. besides, it's 50 years since the first aircraft 'Sputnik' left Russia and went into space (with the dog). imagine that. isn't this the moment of pride and glory that we should all treasure. someday, we'll look into the sky above us and remember that a fellow malaysian did conquer that frontier.

space had long facinated my head. when i was young, i used to look up to the night sky and wonder what's beyond earth. i did read a lot about space and the such. not too much on the technical part, but on histories, myths, legends and information about space. i used to look at the starchart and identify the night sky. when i first saw Pleidas in Perth, i was jumping for joy. never have i spotted pleidas from malaysia. we can see orion, the crux, big dipper and others, but i've never seen pleidas from here....so, imagine my joy.

anyway, enough of me, as this post is dedicated to the man that will carry the malaysian name to space. whether it's dr sheik or dr. faiz, i wish u all the best. dreams and hopes of 22million malaysians rest on your shoulder. so, be well, good luck, and land at the ISS with pride.

blessed be

Wish i could share this level of enthusiasm for this event. I find it a pity that yet again Malaysians resort to grandiose displays of nothing ness to impress the world and herself (Malaysia bodek sendiri). Millions of ringgit (moeny that could hve been better spent to repair our roads or drainage) was inested to send this person to space and what for. It's not like he's gonna do anything fuitful there. Just float about and be famous. Again, grandiose, expensive nothingness is a hallmark of Malaysian "achievements" and until we find some better way to spend public funds, Malaysia will be nothing more than "Malaysia Boleh buat bising sahaja". Perhaps what needs to be done is to get people to stand up and say that "No, we will not tolerate suck waste of public money". Sadly not gonna happen. Most don't think and those that do are threatened by the Law. Viva Malaysi.
